HEART Program

A Place to Call Home

There is a housing crisis in Lancaster County and extremely limited LGBTQ+ affirming housing. Over 70% of our Pandemic Relief Emergency Fund recipients reported housing and rental assistance as their primary need. Currently there are no fully affirming shelters in Lancaster County and bed availability is scarce.

In response, we launched the HEART Program as a 6-month pilot low-cost housing location on February 1, 2021, providing a supportive home for individuals previously living in unaffirming environments. The Coalition subsidizes rent based on individual needs and partners with community organizations to offer enrichment training, such as budgeting, health resources, and life skills.

HEART also provides warm-handoff services, connecting program participants with housing and medical services while offering emotional support. To enhance cultural competency among service providers, the Coalition offers training for community stakeholders and potential partners focused on serving the LGBTQ+ population.

The HEART Program is not currently taking applicants, and cannot currently offer emergency crisis shelter. For immediate shelter assistance, call crisis intervention at (717) 394-2631 or call 211.
